The aim of the project is publication and international dissemination of the archaeological data as a main resource for Baltic studies, what was collected during excavations of Marvelė cemetery in 1993 – 2011 and 2014. The archaeological material is dated to 2nd – 12th / 13th cent. (graphic material, photos, researchdocuments, pictures). The project will contribute to systematize and publish in two volumes the archaeological material of prehistoric cemetery.
This project addresses the following problematic issues related to the publication of the source: the research material is systematized in such a way that gives the opportunity to cover the integrity of the data, to evaluate their interrelationships; the general plan of the archaeological site describes the location of the graves and archeological structures, thus making it possible to understand the corpus of the data; the original relief of archaeological site is restored and the relationship between graves and archeological structures is conveyed in it; a new set of research, including data on graves, finds, structures, is re-evaluated before publishing; the dating of archaeological artifacts and their typology will be accomplished; that whole makes the scope for interdisciplinary research.
The numerous empirical data will be newly evaluated and significantly supplemented, this will summarize data on 1034 people and 134 horse graves, remnants of archaeological structures discovered in the area more than 1,8 ha, and numerous finds, the position and complexity of artifacts will also be discussed.
Due to the scope and complexity of the empirical data, the studies are published in two volumes. Such systematized material enables to understand the continuity of social and cultural life of the local society and forms of it’s behavior.
The publication will be prepared in Lithuanian, German, and English to applying an international standard of discourse. It is prepared in accordance with the requirements adopted in international practice, – terms and principles of typology and dating, graphic representation and characteristics of objects are presented in applying the practise of international discourse.
