Due to the optimised study process and innovative approach, the Faculty introduced first in Lithuania three-year Bachelor’s programme, is implementing the innovative MA+ model; society’s opinion leaders and top-level professionals teach at the Faculty.

This study programme is taught in English and is for those who want to learn “to play with language”, to discover the secrets of electronic communication, to be able to analyse grammar of “visual design“, and to learn several foreign languages (French, German, Russian, Italian, Spanish or Swedish). There is a possibility to obtain a dual degree and in the second semester students can choose a minor study programme.

In a world where problems cross borders and disciplines, where threats that were previously thought to be independent are found to be interconnected, where distinctions between what is domestic policy and what is foreign policy are becoming more and more tenuous, students need training and perspective to break down disciplinary silos. This is a perfect study programme for those who aspire to become policy research specialists. This programme provides deep knowledge of social research implementation, reveals possibilities to analyse public policy and security problems by combining various scientific approaches.

The title of the study programme “Public Policy” will be changed to “Policy and Security Studies”.

This study programme combines communication and technological sciences and prepares communication specialists who are able and keen to work in multicultural environment in business, government or public sector. Study curriculum is built upon project-based activities and real issues’ solving. Practitioners and lecturers from abroad often participate in the study process. An important part of this programme is technologies, “human touch in high tech environment”, which enable students of social studies to analyse, create, and manage content. It is the first Bachelor’s programme in Lithuania which lasts 3 years and is implemented together with the University of Twente (Netherlands). Students have a possibility to study in the University of Twente for one semester.

The curriculum and teaching staff make Music Technologies in KTU a unique study programme in Lithuania. Even though it seems that this programme combines two very different fields, nowadays technologies are an important part of music and entertainment industry. Students study musical language, copyright law, music production software, recording music, design of audio-visual advertisement. They learn the fundamentals of acoustics, sound technology and synthesis, interpretation and improvisation, working principles of electrical devices.

During practice students are familiarised with audio-visual hardware and software, recording order, preparation for record publication, practical skills of music recording and producing sound for events using various audio equipment are acquired. Graduates of Music Technologies’ study programme find jobs easily as employers appreciate them greatly. Main employers are: TV, radio stations, concert service companies, sound recording studios, etc.

This study programme is perfect for people willing to become qualified translators, to speak 2 or 3 foreign languages, and to acquire knowledge of Lithuanian and English linguistics. The students learn to edit texts from various fields and to use newest translation technologies. A great attention is paid to a second foreign language, so students can reach C1 level. Since Lithuania joined the EU, the need of professional translators keeps growing. According to a research done by magazine “Reitingai” (Eng. Rankings), best translation specialists are prepared in this study programme.

The aim of the programme is to prepare specialists who are capable of studying processes in society, identify problems and propose solutions to solving them. Graduates will be able to carry out social and psychological research, to prepare and implement research projects, analyze, diagnose and interpret social and psychological reality.

The programme meets the highest standards of the profession – graduates of the programme will be able to start their career in public and market research agencies, government, business, science and study companies or organizations.

The title of the study programme has been changed from “Sociology” to “Sociology and Psychology”.

This master‘s degree programme will attract those who want to expand their knowledge of translation and localisation methodologies and technologies, and to improve skills of translation technologies and project management. One of the greatest advantages of this programme is the possibility to enhance their translation skills in various language combinations. Graduates will be able to solve translation and localisation problems, will be skilled in software, online text Lithuanisation, translation of audio-visual media, will be able to work with translation software, text alignment, term management, and other programs.

Students have a possibility to acquire individually chosen competences (management, law, language studies, etc.) or choose the path of a field expert (to develop field knowledge necessary to solve scientific problems).

The study programme of Composition and Performance of Electronic Music is the only postgraduate programme in Lithuania and the region which prepares electronic music creators and artists. This programme reflects the changes and needs of art market which manifest in an obvious technologisation of art and creative activities, and development of new areas of activities: experimental, entertainment, media (commercials, TV, cinema) music, etc. In these areas, unlike in traditional music, music composition is inherent in its realisation (performance), hence these studies are oriented towards music composition and performance based on specialised software, sound record methodologies, needs of current concert practice, aesthetic and artistic specifics of the presentation of media, peculiarities of composition and sound realisation in movies and websites, and the rest of creative activities related to sound, art and music technology.

Students of Digital Culture will delve into the interaction of society and media, they will study and critically assess relevant texts of digital culture critics and visionaries. The students will learn to analyse links between media research and practice and other sciences, to formulate philosophically justified arguments and issues relevant to digital culture. They will learn to create a perspective for comparative analysis, to compare media of different cultures based on integrated tradition of philosophy science, to model social and cultural consequences of media, to predict media evolution.

It is a joint PhD programme together with Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences (coordinating institution), Lithuanian sports University, and Šiauliai University.

Education is a contemporary science which has old traditions of pedagogy. Nowadays the boundaries of this science have expanded, and it enables versatile problem solving of lifetime learning. It means that education scientists are concerned not only with formal, non-formal, and informal education and learning of younger generation and adults, social education, education management, and questions regarding higher education, but also contemporary educational technologies, educational and learning environments, and educational innovations. In the junction of education and other social sciences, studies are done to overcome educational challenges in organisational employee learning in educational organisations, networks of learning partnerships, and developing cities and regions. KTU education research has over 50 years of experience, the research groups working in this field had prepared more than a hundred doctors of science with knowledge of contemporary education. The quality of education studies on doctoral level is guaranteed not only by doctoral dissertations on the most relevant topics of today, but also by long years of partnering with scientists from University of Cambridge (Great Britain), University of Haifa (Israel), California State University, Fullerton (USA), and others. Recent ERASMUS exchanges, especially with the University of Lisbon (Portugal), have opened possibilities of direct contact with international academia.

Doctoral programme in political sciences at Kaunas University of Technology is provided in the field of public policy and administration. As General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania, Klaipėda University and Vytautas Magnus University also participate in organising and delivering of this programme, dissertation topics can be chosen from the fields offered by partner institutions of doctoral studies: theory of politics, political communication, comparative politics and international relations.

History of Art doctoral study programme is provided in the interdisciplinary research area and focuses on three fields: theory of architecture and urbanism, history and musicology. Globalisation, technological changes, environmental problems, social and political trends, financial crisis of the last decade brought a range of challenges for management science. KTU doctoral studies in Management analyse relevant and complex problems of management; the scientists of this field in Lithuania started thesis research in such areas as public administration, knowledge and awareness management, intellectual capital management, marketing and business (industrial) systems. Topics of the dissertation research of doctoral studies are closely related to fundamental and applied research conducted by the university’s scientists. Doctoral students of the management field have a possibility to attend the lectures by experienced foreign lecturers and complete internships at the highest level foreign scientific research centres.

Management program aims to develop qualified, responsible and promising researchers able to generate new knowledge contributing to management science development.
