Education is a contemporary science which has old traditions of pedagogy. Nowadays the boundaries of this science have expanded, and it enables versatile problem solving of lifetime learning. It means that education scientists are concerned not only with formal, non-formal, and informal education and learning of younger generation and adults, social education, education management, and questions regarding higher education, but also contemporary educational technologies, educational and learning environments, and educational innovations. In the junction of education and other social sciences, studies are done to overcome educational challenges in organisational employee learning in educational organisations, networks of learning partnerships, and developing cities and regions. KTU education research has over 50 years of experience, the research groups working in this field had prepared more than a hundred doctors of science with knowledge of contemporary education. The quality of education studies on doctoral level is guaranteed not only by doctoral dissertations on the most relevant topics of today, but also by long years of partnering with scientists from University of Cambridge (Great Britain), University of Haifa (Israel), California State University, Fullerton (USA), and others. Recent ERASMUS exchanges, especially with the University of Lisbon (Portugal), have opened possibilities of direct contact with international academia.
