New Media Language

This study programme is taught in English and is for those who want to learn “to play with language”, to discover the secrets of electronic communication, to be able to analyse grammar of “visual design“, and to learn several foreign languages (French, German, Russian, Italian, Spanish or Swedish). There is a possibility to obtain a dual degree and in the second semester students can choose a minor study programme.

Communication Studies and Information Management Technologies

This study programme combines communication and technological sciences and prepares communication specialists who are able and keen to work in multicultural environment in business, government or public sector. Study curriculum is built upon project-based activities and real issues’ solving. Practitioners and lecturers from abroad often participate in the study process. An important part of this programme is technologies, “human touch in high tech environment”, which enable students of social studies to analyse, create, and manage content. It is the first Bachelor’s programme in Lithuania which lasts 3 years and is implemented together with the University of Twente (Netherlands). Students have a possibility to study in the University of Twente for one semester.

Music Technologies

The curriculum and teaching staff make Music Technologies in KTU a unique study programme in Lithuania. Even though it seems that this programme combines two very different fields, nowadays technologies are an important part of music and entertainment industry. Students study musical language, copyright law, music production software, recording music, design of audio-visual advertisement. They learn the fundamentals of acoustics, sound technology and synthesis, interpretation and improvisation, working principles of electrical devices.

During practice students are familiarised with audio-visual hardware and software, recording order, preparation for record publication, practical skills of music recording and producing sound for events using various audio equipment are acquired. Graduates of Music Technologies’ study programme find jobs easily as employers appreciate them greatly. Main employers are: TV, radio stations, concert service companies, sound recording studios, etc.

Translation of Technical Texts

This study programme is perfect for people willing to become qualified translators, to speak 2 or 3 foreign languages, and to acquire knowledge of Lithuanian and English linguistics. The students learn to edit texts from various fields and to use newest translation technologies. A great attention is paid to a second foreign language, so students can reach C1 level. Since Lithuania joined the EU, the need of professional translators keeps growing. According to a research done by magazine “Reitingai” (Eng. Rankings), best translation specialists are prepared in this study programme.

Public Governance

The programme is unique because, for the first time in the history of higher education, European and American academic systems are running together. The programme is the first of its kind in BA studies of public administration. The students will spend first two years in Lithuania, studying the courses at KTU compatible with the courses at UCF. From the third year, KTU students study together with UCF students in a joint group, sharing their study time between Lithuania and the United States. The graduates will become public governance leaders with global awareness and competency in public administration and non-profit management.

Translation and Localization of Technical Texts

This master‘s degree programme will attract those who want to expand their knowledge of translation and localisation methodologies and technologies, and to improve skills of translation technologies and project management. One of the greatest advantages of this programme is the possibility to enhance their translation skills in various language combinations. Graduates will be able to solve translation and localisation problems, will be skilled in software, online text Lithuanisation, translation of audio-visual media, will be able to work with translation software, text alignment, term management, and other programs.

Students have a possibility to acquire individually chosen competences (management, law, language studies, etc.) or choose the path of a field expert (to develop field knowledge necessary to solve scientific problems).

Composition and Performance of Electronic Music

The study programme of Composition and Performance of Electronic Music is the only postgraduate programme in Lithuania and the region which prepares electronic music creators and artists. This programme reflects the changes and needs of art market which manifest in an obvious technologisation of art and creative activities, and development of new areas of activities: experimental, entertainment, media (commercials, TV, cinema) music, etc. In these areas, unlike in traditional music, music composition is inherent in its realisation (performance), hence these studies are oriented towards music composition and performance based on specialised software, sound record methodologies, needs of current concert practice, aesthetic and artistic specifics of the presentation of media, peculiarities of composition and sound realisation in movies and websites, and the rest of creative activities related to sound, art and music technology.

Digital Culture

Students of Digital Culture will delve into the interaction of society and media, they will study and critically assess relevant texts of digital culture critics and visionaries. The students will learn to analyse links between media research and practice and other sciences, to formulate philosophically justified arguments and issues relevant to digital culture. They will learn to create a perspective for comparative analysis, to compare media of different cultures based on integrated tradition of philosophy science, to model social and cultural consequences of media, to predict media evolution.

This programme meets the highest standards of this profession and the needs of job market. Graduates can expect great career in social policy designing political, public organisations, in interest groups and private organisations implementing that policy, also in companies and organisations providing social services.

Social Welfare and Policy master’s programme provides the students with deep theoretical and methodological knowledge of social policy. After the studies, graduates will be able to recognise social problems professionally and to suggest solutions to them. In the programme of Social Wlfare and Policy exceptional attention is paid to social research methods which help properly diagnose and interpret social reality and suggest adequate solutions to social problems.

Public Administration

KTU was the first to organise Public Administration studies in Lithuania. Studies are meant for those who aspire to become very competent specialists of public administration. The graduates of the programme are able to analyse and to assess public administration processes in comparative perspective by combining various scientific approaches to investigate and ethically solve problems of public governance.

History of Theory of Arts doctoral study programme is provided in the interdisciplinary research area and focuses on three fields: theory of architecture and urbanism, history and musicology. Double degree programme with the University of Bologna, Italy

KTU doctoral studies in Management analyse relevant and complex problems of the field. KTU researchers in management field were the pioneers in Lithuania in dissertation research in such areas as public administration, knowledge and awareness management, intellectual capital management, marketing and business (industrial) systems. Topics of the dissertation research of doctoral studies are closely related to fundamental and applied research conducted by the University’s scientists. Doctoral students majoring in management have a possibility to attend the lectures by experienced lecturers from institutions abroad and to complete internships at the top scientific research centres all over the world. The objective of Management PhD programme is to train qualified, responsible and prospective researchers, able to create new knowledge that is useful for development of management science.
