Tekstūros | Writing Competition

The Faculty of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities of Kaunas University of Technology invites pupils and students who write and want to write to take part in the writing competition “Tekstūros” (en. “textures”).

Are you creative and love to write? Then this is a great opportunity to try your hand at it! Choose one of the several given text categories, write your text in English ot Lithuanian and submit it by November 30th, 12 p.m.

The works of participants selected by the jury and who provide consent for publication during registration will be included in a special digital edition of Tekstūros – an almanac. This is an opportunity to present your creativity to a wider audience and become part of an inspiring collection.

Competition rules

  • The writing competition “Tekstūros” is open for 9–12 grade pupils as well as for students of KTU and other Lithuanian higher education institutions;
  • Only original texts by authors (pupils, students) are eligible for the competition. If a previously written work fits any of the competition categories, it can be submitted, but must have been written no earlier than 2025.
  • Tools such as artificial intelligence (AI) or paraphrasing tools are not acceptable.
  • Texts should be written in English and Lithuanian.
  • One person can submit one text to one category only.
  • Texts must be submitted to the jury by November 30th, 12 p.m.
  • Please upload your text files by filling the registration form below. Accepted file formats: Microsoft Word, Office Libre (not pdf). Pdf files are not accepted.

Text categories

1. A Letter to Myself

  • Set a real date in the past (e.g., ten years ago) and write to your past self.
  • The letter should have a clear addressee.
  • In the letter, discuss what you feel, what you do, what brings you joy, or what matters to you.
  • The letter can take the form of a fairy tale, a story, or a diary entry.

Text length: 800 words (± 100 words)

3. Screenplay “Hidden World”

  • Write the first eight pages of a film screenplay, corresponding to the first eight minutes of the film.
  • These pages should at least partially reveal the world in which the story takes place, introduce the main characters, and begin the central events of the story.
  • The genre can be of your choice.

Originality – the screenplay should demonstrate original ideas.
The story should be coherent, with clear characters and setting.
Text length: 8 pages

2. For and Against Essay

Topic: Technology’s impact on friendships

  • The main issue should be clearly presented, outlining both sides.
  • The “for” and “against” arguments should be persuasive and well-reasoned.
  • Paragraphs should be well-structured, each focusing on one idea.
  • The tone and style should be appropriate for an academic or formal essay.

Length: 500 words (± 50 words)

  • The winners will receive amazing prizes from KTU.
  • All other participants will receive KTU certificates for taking part in the competition.
  • The winners’ works will be included in a special electronic “Tekstūros” publication – an almanac.
