K. B Usha is an Associate Professor in the Centre for Russian and Central Asian Studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. She holds her M.A Degree in Politics and International Relations from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala, and MPhil and PhD (Soviet/Russian Studies) from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Her research experience includes works on Political Empowerment of Women: A Critical Study of Indian Experience and Women and Democratic Transition in Central Asia: A Human Security Perspective (two projects pursued as Research Associate in Dept. of Political Science, Kerala University and in CRCAS, JNU). She published her first book titled A Wounded Afghanistan: Communism, Fundamentalism and Democracy in 2004. At present she is working on her forthcoming book titled Bitter Emancipation: Women in Soviet/Russian Politics. Her other research interests are in the area of globalization, identity and cultural politics, gender, ethnicity, international politics, social theory, terrorism, conflict and security. She teaches courses on International Communism, Trans-Caucasia and Baltic States.
