Project no.: 01.1.1-CPVA-V-701-04-0002

Project description:

The European Social Survey (ESS) is a biennial survey on the values, attitudes and behavior of Europeans. At least 36 European countries have already participated in the survey started in 2001. Since 2013 ESS operates as the European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC), and in 2016 the European Research Infrastructure Strategy Forum (ESFRI) has awarded it the status of the ESFRI Landmark. Lithuania has been participating in the ESS since Round 4 (2008) and is a true member of ESS ERIC. By the end of 2017, five rounds of the survey have already been conducted in Lithuania. ESS in Lithuania was implemented by Kaunas University of Technology. The Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania is the national representative of ESS ERIC. The aim of the project is to ascertain necessary resources for further participation of Lithuania in the ESS ERIC. During the project, the annual ESS ERIC membership fee for the years 2018-2020 will be paid, the workplaces of the ESS ERIC infrastructure in Lithuania will be renewed and the ESS ERIC data analysis training laboratory will be established. Target groups of the project: students of social sciences and humanities, scientists and other researchers. This project will also contribute to the implementation of the goal of the strategy of the European Union’s Baltic Sea region – to increase the prosperity of the region – in the policy field “Innovations”. The strategy identifies that scientific research in the Baltic Sea region is not evenly developed and integrated, so steps should be taken to correct these inequalities. Participation in the ESS ERIC will ensure further development of high-quality scientific research, the mobilization of social science capacities for cross-cultural research, and further strengthening of the network of social sciences in the Baltic Sea region.
