The research group “Civil Society and Sustainability” of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities of KTU, established in 2018, conducts interdisciplinary research on scientific understanding of the complexities, threats and challenges of contemporary society, providing research – based solutions for strengthening civil society.

Vaidas Morkevičius, Giedrius Žvaliauskas and Vytautas Valentinavičius analyse issue priorities of the Lithuanian public and how Russian invasion into Ukraine changed public issue attention in 2022 compared to 2023. They found out that macroeconomic issues are seen as the most important national problems.
The case study of KTU as the example of institutionalization of citizen science is presented in the article by Audronė Telešienė and Eglė Butkevičienė. They discuss external factors of universities transformation, present experiences of KTU developing citizen science initiatives and provide recommendations for the further development of citizen science.
The third article by Aistė Balžekienė discusses energy lifestyles in Lithuania, based on the representative survey. Research identified that the largest potential for the behavioural change in the energy sector is related to mobility and housing.
During 2023 our research group was looking into the challenges of civil societies in relation to current and emerging crises.
