Our friends at Kaunastic remind – this weekend, the Day of the Republic of India, holiday linked with the adoption of India’s constitution, is celebrated. Let’s mark the occasion on Saturday, January 25 together with the Indian community living in Kaunas.

On Saturday, January 25, Kaunas Picture Gallery (K. Donelaičio Street 16) invites everyone to celebrate the Day of the Republic of India, which is linked with the adoption of the country’s constitution on 26 January 1950.

The event will begin at 1 pm with the music and dance of India. Giriprakash Das Roshini, a student at the Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), will tell a story about India, its history, culture, society and family traditions. She will be ready to answer all the questions about this country. The discourse will go along with the video show.

Until 4:30 pm, a special “Small India” stand at the gallery will present fragments of beauty and adornments of India. You will be offered an opportunity to taste traditional Indian dishes and snacks and acquire genuine Indian spices that have been brought from this country.

At creative workshops, you will get a chance to draw traditional Indian ornaments on your hands and faces applying natural paint. Students from India will be ready to help you acquaint with the exotic art each ornament of which has a symbolic meaning.

“Though geographically far apart, India and Lithuania have similar political, social and cultural histories. I believe that we can benefit from each other through intellectual and cultural transactions”, says Runa Chakraborty Paunksnis the Head of the new India Centre, which opened at KTU this autumn.

Currently, more than 300 students from India are studying at KTU.
