International Summer School Brought Together ENHANCE Project Partners to Discuss Citizen Social Science

Important | 2025-06-14

On 11–13 June 2025, the Faculty of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities hosted a summer school of the Erasmus+ funded international project ENHANCE: Empowering Higher Education Through Citizen Social Science.

The event brought together project partners and participants from across Europe to share experiences and strengthen the application of citizen social science in higher education and community-based work.

The summer school focused on experiences from the paticipants’ future-oriented #FuturesWorkshop sessions. Participants explored how the methodological tools developed within the project had been applied in work with communities across diverse social and cultural contexts, discussing both challenges and examples of good practice. The consolidated reflections enabled a revision of the workshop structure and contributed to the development of the contents for the project’s Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), ensuring its relevance and practical value.

Project partners – representatives of universities within the ECIU alliance, including Dublin City University, University of Twente, Tampere University, Linköping University, and the University of Aveiro – also agreed on future joint activities. These will focus on promoting citizen science as an innovative methodology for fostering community engagement, equality, and empowerment, while strengthening the connection between higher education institutions and society.
